Sticking to Your Resolutions

A new year is right around the corner. For many, it’s a time of reflection, hope, and resolutions. As you begin building your lists and creating plans for 2020, we want to help you choose a few that are easy to do. Below are just a few ways you can make sure you follow through to 2021:

Don’t Set Yourself Up for Failure

Though a few big goals aren’t wrong, don’t forget the little ones, too. Anything that can break a habit or create a healthier lifestyle can be considered a resolution, and can easily be tracked. Whether you choose to cut back on sugar or eat less meat, set monthly goals and check-in with yourself to make sure you meet them. It can be quite easy for many to create a list and quickly forget about it come February, but breaking them down by weekly or monthly marks can make it much easier to keep ongoing.

Work Your Way Up

A small goal, such as walking after dinner can be something you can easily keep. Though everyone would love to run a marathon, the best way to succeed is to work your way up to it. Same goes with any goal: if you plan to read more, start with reading some of your favorites and then move up to bigger, more long-form books.

Become More Social

Spending time with friends and family is not only a great mood booster, but it’s also a crucial part of memory development. By spending more time with peers, you may reduce your chance of depression and increase your lifespan. Plus, by including friends and family into your resolutions, you’ll be accountable not to cancel, making it harder to toss your plans to the side.

Be Honest With Yourself

Just remember, as you begin to set goals for the year to come, you’ll want to be hope and honest with what you can achieve and how. By believing in yourself, having the proper support system, and creating achievable steps, you can finish the year off with success. For instance, if this is the year you plan to quit smoking, take it day by day. Except the bad days and work towards the good. A change in perspective can be all you need to obtain your resolutions.
